Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev singled out the Republic of Tatarstan and its Efir TV channel while presenting the Russian government’s 2014 media awards. The ceremony took place at Russian Government’s House of Receptions.
A total of ten annual awards worth 1 million rouble each were given this year.
Dmitry Medvedev singled out Tatarstan’s Efir channel for being a leader of many years. Efir board chairman Andrei Grigoriev and Tatmedia general director Farit Shagiakhmetov attended the ceremony.
The premier signed an instruction to present awards in December 2014, the ceremony being timed to coincide with the Russian journalists’ trade holiday, Day of Russian Press.
Russian government’s media awards have been given to Russian media individuals and entities for achieving prominent creative and professional results, as well as to foreign media operating in the Russian language. The awards are designed to develop mass media and incentivise professional activities in this field.
Candidates are nominated by public associations, mass media organisations, award winners, as well as by the Government Media Award Council.
One candidate normally wins one award. The award may be given to a team of at most five contenders representing a mass medium, in which case it is equally divided between the team members.
