Public state television channel "Culture" was established 17 years ago

August 25, 1997 by the relevant Presidential Decree was established the All-Russian state TV channel "Culture". Dmitry Likhachev, Mstislav Rostropovich, and other prominent figures of culture and art became initiators of it.
TV channel began broadcasting November 1, 1997 and to this day remains the only national channel, existing without advertising. The purpose of the TV channel "Culture" - the restoration of cultural-educational and educational function of public television in Russia.
In 2003 it was awarded the main prize at the All-Russian competition "Patriots of Russia", organized by the Ministry of the press and the Ministry of Defense, "For a deep, bright and systematic reflection of patriotic themes."
