Second international Turkic-language TV contest Turkvision presented in Kazan

18 July 2014, Friday
The Turkic-language performers’ second international TV song contest Turkvision was presented at Kazan Culture Centre in Tatarstan capital.

Tatarstan Culture Minister Airat Sibagatullin opened the ceremony. The fact that Kazan had been named the Turkic world’s capital in 2014 was very important, since the year was a Year of Culture as well, he said. He then read out a welcoming message from Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov.

Tatarstan poet Razil Valeev welcomed those gathered and told them that the Tatarstan State Council culture, science and education committee he chaired were very enthusiastic about holding the festival in Kazan.

“A TV festival is not just an art festival. Through exchanging information we primarily step up international ties, and promote the culture and art of each nation. Thus, most importantly, I think, we unite various nations, people of various ethnicities bound by common roots,” Republican Agency for Print Media and Mass Communications First Deputy Chief Nuria Belomoina said.

TMB TV channel’s Chief Executive Director Samir Kurbanov spoke to the colleagues, telling them about the channel and the making of Turkvision festival.

The festival’s main organisers, TMB TV and national and regional channels who will later hold selection rounds and broadcast the competition live, proceeded by signing an agreement.

The signatory representing Tatarstan was Maidan music channel director Damir Davletshin. Representatives from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Bashkortostan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Crimea, Moldova, Turkey and others signed the agreement as well.

The presentation concluded with a dinner.

Turkvision is a song contest of Turkic-language countries and communities. Its inaugural edition took place last year in Turkey. Tatarstan was represented by singer Alina Sharipzhanova.
